Plagiarism

I think that the university was a little harsh with their punishment of “academic dishonesty” when there were students who were drunk in public that didn’t get that hard of a punishment. In reality no one should actually plagiarize; however, it happens more frequently than people think. How easy is it to copy and paste something from an online source? It seems the more that technology advances the easier it becomes for anyone to “just get it done with”. I think its funny how that there were so many people that turned in the same paper, and received different grades. I’ve heard of teachers grading differently, or some grading on a curve but really how did they not notice that their students were writing the same thing? In the end I believe that in the case of Mark Gruntz, and having three semesters of hard work taken from him over one paper is way harsh. Granted I know that you have to set the bar for other students, and I’m sure that students watching what has happened to Mark Gruntz had made a impact on how they write, and making sure they site their work.

Ya it is weird to think they are so worried about plagiarism when they are so many different things that go unoticed and could be considered by many to be worse than plagiarism. Good points though.

Its true, technology posses a real problem to students and others who want information but don't want to plagiarize. Its hard to reword EVERYTHING

I like the example you gave regarding students drunk in public recieving lighter punishments. I know for myself if i was expelled for making what could be inturprited as a work related mistake, I'd feel pretty wronged because here I am just trying to apply my self and complete an assignment and i get expelled.
